A Message of Thanks from the Chair
The Taskforce completed its work in an environment of challenge and change, where the national focus was to develop a more sustainable and responsive health workforce through more efficient and effective national arrangements.
Achieving national consistency in nursing and midwifery education, regulation and practice was a key theme for the Taskforce. The Taskforce focused its attention and formed collaborative alliances and partnerships in order to progress this goal.
The Taskforce was overwhelmed by the support of nurses and midwives and the various groups around Australia. Many individuals, groups and government departments were most generous with their time.
In particular, I wish to thank:
- The Taskforce members who brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table and were always responsive and supportive of the work program.
- The Australian and New Zealand Council of Chief Nurses (ANZ-CCN), who were a great source of support; promoting the Taskforce and facilitating our work, as well as allowing us to connect and meet with local nurses and midwives across Australia.
- The Council of Deans of Nursing & Midwifery - Australia New Zealand who facilitated, supported and encouraged our work.
- The Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Regulatory Authorities.
- The Taskforce Secretariat for their dedication and tireless work.
I would also like to thank Ministers for supporting and sponsoring this work.
Nurses and midwives from across Australia are keen and willing to engage constructively to make a valuable contribution to further progressing the process of change. The challenge lies in harnessing the energy in order to build forward!
